It’s not often that I come away from an interview carrying a dozen freshly baked cinnamon rolls. Like Robin Hood, I had fun sharing them with the newspaper staff, my neighbors and my son and grandson. And of course, I had a couple myself. They were delightful and have become the staple of OH Sourdough.
Dave and Mary Wilson are wellknown in the Macomb and surrounding area for their baked goods and hot, down home cooked meals. Dave has been cooking most of his life and Mary has cooked over the years, with some of the most popular meals now being comfort foods she cooked for her own children as they were growing up.

The Wilson’s home base for cooking is the Bailey House at 100 South Campbell Street. They fulfill individual orders for pick up and can also cater to such events as funerals, weddings, and graduations. In the recent past they cooked and served three schools as Macomb PTO celebrated National Teacher Appreciation week, The Wilsons have a cottage industry license as well as a full service food license. Dave does the baking of the bread, bagels, cookies and of course the cinnamon rolls. He also lends a hand to the hot meals when Mary decides to offer smoked meats.
Dave has had many years of food service experience from washing dishes to restaurant ownership. His family even owned a restaurant on the east highway 67/136 curve that his grandmother ran back in the early 1960s. Mary works up the Ready Made Meals (or now, ready to bake meals.) They plan to offer frozen meals to pick up for convenient meals for the busy person to have on hand to pop in the oven.
Mary says these meals all begin with creating a plan and executing the delicious meals that they serve. Then the last step is to get the meal into the hands of the customer and savor seeing the smiles on the faces of satisfied buyers. Mary has been a certified food manager for several years and is certified in the field of safe food preparation, safe food serving, and in keeping a safe and clean cooking environment. Her grandfather, too, owned a restaurant in Forsyth, Missouri.
OH Sourdough began when Dave, a regular customer of another baker, decided to try his hand at baking the sourdough bread himself. He shared the bread with friends, and before long they were encouraging him to sell his own version.
A Facebook page followed and the Wilsons have expanded into cinnamon rolls, cookies, and bagels. They even occasionally offer smoked ribs, chicken and wings which have become popular on Sundays during football season. Dave and Mary are always trying new things. They have a commercial size wood fire pizza oven and hope to soon be selling their sourdough crust wood fire pizza. One of their personal favorites is their macaroni and cheese with smoked pulled pork. It allows them both to add their own element to a dish that they create together on meal day. It is proving quite popular.
The Wilsons are quick to realize that there is a need in the community and are very quick to offer a courtesy meal for the hungry or deliver meals to older folks. Dave laughs that they even have a few customers on payment plans.
