A prolonged period of dangerous heat begins today, lasting through much of the week. Forecast heat indices for today through at least Wednesday will rise to between 100-110 degrees.
As a result, an Extreme Heat Warning is now in effect across the local outlook area. Storm potential & associated cloud cover later in the week may interrupt the heat.
Make sure to take appropriate actions to keep yourself cool during this period of extreme heat. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the shade.
Cooling centers are available throughout McDonough County. If you do not have access to air-conditioned space to cool off, use the cooling centers.
