Despite the rainy weather Friday, Breckyn Murphy had a record turnout for her fourth annual lemonade stand to raise funds for the Humane Society of McDonough County's New Building Campaign Fund. The seven-year-old Macomb girl raised $3,100, but with a double-match from Gloria (Caldwell) and Ed Vankan, Friday's grand total is $9,300.
Since starting her fundraising efforts for the Humane Society four years ago, Murphy, the daughter of Gabrielle Dye-Murphy and Lance Murphy, has raised almost $14,500.
'We were amazed by our community's generosity. Countless people donated through Venmo, and many visitors didn't want any change back after making their donations,' her mother shared. 'Breckyn worked incredibly hard preparing for this event, and it was heartwarming to see our community rally around her. We especially send our sincere gratitude to Gloria and Ed. Their generosity is truly remarkable, and we are deeply thankful for their willingness to make such an incredible impact.'
