Council Finalizes Breathing Pack Purchases

Macomb aldermen voted Monday to purchase sets of self-contained breathing apparatuses for the Macomb Fire Department. Fire Chief Dan Meyer said 11 packs would be purchased for $60,772 from Banner Fire Equipment. He said sample packs were brought to Macomb and tested last week.

Meyer said another 30 packs would be purchased from Banner for $251,250.

He said that payment would be supported by a five-year loan from Clock Tower Bank.

In other business at Monday's City Council Committee of the Whole meeting, an ordinance to authorize the location of three electric vehicle charging stations was discussed. City Administrator Scott Coker said charging stations have been installed at the following locations: two spaces at the A.L. Cooper parking lot at 120 West Jackson Street across from the Western Illinois Regional Council offices; two spaces at the city bus pickup lot at 304 North Randolph Street across the street from the Carper Amtrak Station; and two spaces at the city parking lot behind Gelsosomo's Pizza at 216 North Campbell Street.

Council members also discussed proposed amendments to the city municipal code dealing with alcohol. City Attorney Lisa Scalf said that non-citizens and non-resident managers or agents would not be eligible to hold liquor licenses. She said there would also be an amendment creating an EV class liquor license for private events.

Mayor Mike Inman concluded the committee session by discussing significant storm damage in the area over the past two weeks. The most recent occurrence was last Sunday in Monmouth.
