First Ever Event Raises Nearly $10k
Nearly 30 teams came out for the kids Saturday at Gold Hills Golf Club for the first-ever “Kicks for Kids” golf tournament to benefit Brown’s Shoe Fit in Macomb and Macomb’s Noon Rotary, local shoe fund program for Macomb elementary school students. Approximately $10,0000 was raised at Saturday’s inaugural tournament.
“This amount will benefit many children in our school district. Not only will we be able to take care of students in K-5, we are going to expand to students in grades 6-8,” said Brown’s Shoe Fit Owner Jimmie Koller, who started the initial Kicks for Kids initiative. “A big thank you to Dan Torrance at Gold Hills for hosting a large outing for a great cause. We also had a lot of work behind the scenes with getting sponsorships, hole prizes and great raffle prizes, Rick Snowden, Julie Cox and I made connections with businesses willing to donate to a great event. The generosity of businesses and people in the community still amazes me all the time.”
Last year, the Macomb Noon Rotary teamed up with Brown’s owner Jimmie Koller to provide funding and support for Kicks for Kids, which Koller created almost five years ago. The fund was established after an anonymous donor approached him and provided $2,000 to buy 50 pairs of tennis shoes for children in Macomb. Edison School Social Worker Chandler Adkisson identified students in grades K-5 who were in need of new shoes, and from there, the program was off and running.
“My mission for this cause is that I want this to be something that continues not just for just a few years. I want this to be an event we can build on annually to keep helping those in need,” Koller added. “There is nothing better than watching a child’s smile light up with just a simple act of kindness.”
The 2027 event is scheduled for June 18.
