Bushnell Chamber Discusses Holiday Decorations, Bushnell Bucks Participation

The Bushnell Chamber of Commerce approved plans to decorate light poles on Cole Street for the holidays and renewed efforts to boost participation in the local Bushnell Bucks program at its June 9 meeting.

Holly Brint and Austin Pierce will present retailers, photos, and pricing for pole decorations at the next meeting. An individual has expressed willingness to match the Chamber's donation. Brint and fellow member Cindy Ridle will also approach local businesses about contributing funds for the decorations.

The Chamber's push to increase Bushnell Bucks participation reflects concern that only two local businesses currently accept the currency. Members discussed creating promotional materials, including a video and 30-second sound bite, to explain the program's benefits to merchants. The topic will be revisited at the next meeting.

In other business, the Chamber approved a Bushnell Business Inquiry form that will be posted on social media and distributed in person by Chamber members. Participating businesses will be highlighted on the Chamber's Facebook page.

Mayor Dave Norton announced that Spoon River College will construct a new facility for trades instruction, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work. He also said the Fall Festival will run August 26–29, with performances by the Unforgettables (Thursday), Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters (Friday), and Madd Hoss Jackson (Saturday).

The Chamber approved a motion to set membership dues renewal for September 1 each year.

The next meeting will address Music Bingo Night and further discussion of Bushnell Bucks promotion strategies.
