Western IL Museum to Participate in Illinois Voices 250

On Saturday, June 20th, from 1- 5 pm, the Western Illinois Museum will host Illinois Voices 250, a statewide storytelling initiative documenting the voices and experiences of people across all 102 Illinois counties in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Created by Illinois Humanities, in partnership with the Illinois America 250 Commission and Story-Corps Studios, the upcoming Community Recording day will enable participants to record one-on-one conversations reflecting on their experiences and perspectives, preserving the voices of everyday Illinoisans: who we are, what we care about, and what we think is important about this moment in our country’s history. There is no cost to participate.

The Western Illinois Museum is a nonprofit organization dedicated to celebrating and preserving the history, culture, and traditions of McDonough County. Serving as a community gathering place for exhibits, lectures, music, and public programs, it is proud to contribute its perspectives and stories to this statewide effort.

Can’t attend in person?

A do‑it‑yourself recording option is also available online at ILHumanites.org/ ILVoices250.

The Western Illinois Museum is located at 201 S. Lafayette Street, just one block south of Macomb’s Courthouse Square. The building is fully accessible, and free parking is available.
