Five Macomb Athletes Take Part in Summer Games, Schenck Brings Home the Gold
On June 10, members of the Illinois State Police Troop 4 and Zone 4 joined the Macomb Police Department and WIU Office of Public Safety for the Macomb leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. The annual event is the single largest year-round fundraising movement benefiting Special Olympics Illinois.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run includes an annual intrastate relay conducted by officers representing every branch of law enforcement within the state, as well as federal partners. Approximately 3,000 officers carry the Flame of Hope nearly 1,500 miles, running through thousands of Illinois communities via 23 different legs (routes) to its final destination: the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games in Normal. The 2026 games were held June 12-14.
Macomb had five individuals participating in this year’s games: Corey Clause, Kimberly Schenck, William Reynolds, RJ Jorganson and Lynn Aten. Schenck brought home the Gold in the 10M assisted walk, while Clause and Jorganson placed sixth in their events, the 100M walk and 50M, respectively. Reynolds and Aten both earned a Silver in the softball throw.
The annual Summer Games bring together more than 15,000 participants, including 3,500 athletes, 1,250 coaches, 1,200 volunteers and 10,000 family members, for a three-day celebration of inclusion and achievement in seven sports.
