Church Group Gets Zoning Variance for Storage Structure

Western Illinois Campus Evangelism received a zoning variance last week from the Macomb Zoning Board of Appeals. The religious group plans to build a storage structure on property adjacent to its building at 1545 River Drive.

Evangelism board member Jared Dunseth told zoning board members that the new building would match the existing building in color and structure. He said it would serve as a garage to house trailers and lawnmowers. Community Development Director Cesar Suarez said the storage building would not hurt the neighborhood and, in fact, would enhance its character.

Also last Wednesday, the zoning board voted to approve a variance to allow backyard parking behind 408 North White Street. The property is owned by Michael and Erin Eddy. Michael Eddy told the board that they have lived there for five years. He said they now need space for more than two cars as their oldest son has started driving.

Eddy said he would like to add a pad behind their house to accomodate two cars. Suarez told the board there is no room on the side of the house for two cars, so a driveway and a two-space parking pad is the most appropriate option, He said the Eddys' situation was subject to hardship and unique conditions. 'It would not be injurious to the neighborhood,' the director said.
