The Macomb Lions Club wants to thank the community for donating and recycling their pre-owned tennis shoes and eye glasses in the past few months. We have delivered them to our foundation for their assistance in distribution.
We have collected from you more than 1200 pairs of used glasses and over 30 pairs of tennis shoes to be repurposed.
Each pair of glasses will have their prescription checked and some will be provided to various mission groups and some will stay in the United States. The used sunglasses will be provided to those who have cataracts.
Our used Recycling Sneaker Program also has a major impact on our environment by repurposing and recycling.
This program helps to fund various programs and services that will assist those with vision and hearing needs. Be Aware that the Sneaker program CAN only accept and use shoes that tie. We cannot accept any shoes with Velcro.
In addition to recycling shoes and eyeglasses, we also collect used hearing aids, old keys, cell phones, pop tabs and ink cartridges.
There are various collection sites around Macomb. The YMCA has a box for your used shoes with laces. Walmart Eye Center will accept your used eye glasses. All items plus shoes and eye glasses can be dropped off outside receptacles at Farm King and Citizens Bank at 1100 W. Jackson.
