Mary Ann Barr, age 82, of Colchester, passed away Friday, May 22, 2026, peacefully with her husband and soulmate by her side. She was born December 27, 1943, to Everett and Ada Wells Chapin. Mary was united in marriage August 1, 1965, at the Burnside Methodist Church to Gary L Barr, he survives.
Surviving to mourn her passing is her husband of 60 years, Gary L Barr of Colchester, 2 sons: Mike (Deedra) Barr of Colchester, Eric (Petrina) Barr of Tucson, Arizona, 5 grandchildren: Brenna Baker, Cole (Anna) Baker, Drew (Lexi) Barr, Garran Barr, Blaine Barr, 2 great grandchildren: Rohan Barr, and Ira Baker, 1 brother: John (Marianne) Chapin of Anderson, South Carolina, 2 sisters: Elaine (Tom) Ferguson of Nauvoo, Pam (Jim) Jefferson of Carthage, 3 sister in laws: Bonnie Chapin of LaHarpe, Mary Chapin of Colchester, and Lyla (Guy) Powers of Ft. Madison, Iowa.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Ada Chapin, 2 sisters: Evelyn Simmons and Ellyn Miller, 2 brothers: Everett Chapin Jr. and Ernest Chapin.
Mary worked for Colchester Savings and Loan, then transitioned to First Federal Savings and Loan, then First Federal Savings Bank, where she retired after 30 years. She was a member of the Jolly Housekeepers Club. She and Gary attended the Crossing Church in Macomb regularly. Mary enjoyed writing and took classes to become a creative writer. She was a 1961 graduate of Carthage High School where she was valedictorian of her class. Mary took great pride in caring for her family, and loved them dearly.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Jones Mortuary in Colchester with Rev. Lee Unger. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Friends may sign the register book at Jones Mortuary from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Friday, June 12, 2026.
