The Illinois high school girls track and field season came to a close Saturday with the final day of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Track and Field Finals at Charleston.
In Class 1A, Bushnell-Prairie City freshman Marryn Ferguson brought home a pair of medals.
In the pole vault, Ferguson finished in a three-way tie for fifth place with an effort of 3.20-meters (10-feet, 6-inches).
She sat in sixth place after Thursday’s preliminaries at 3.00m (9-feet, 10-inches).
In Saturday’s finals, she cleared 10-6 (3.20m) before bowing out at 10-10 (3.30m).
Ferguson also finished fifth in the 100meter high hurdles, posting a time in the final of 15.40 seconds.
Ferguson was seventh in the prelims with a time of 15.34.
She also qualified in the 100-meter dash when she finished 33rd in the prelims with a time of 13.05 seconds.
In the Class 2A preliminaries held Friday at O’Brien Stadium on the campus of Eastern Illinois University, a pair of Macomb High athletes qualified for finals in their respective events.
In the high jump, junior Aubrey Holthaus, finished in a three-way tie for fourth with a leap of 1.55m.
She was one of 13 individuals reaching the final, all clearing that mark of 1.55m. It was a season best for Holthaus.
Meanwhile, senior Dakota Thorman finished seventh in the discus with a toss of 36.97m (121-3). Thorman was sixth in the prelims in advancing to the final.
Other results for the Bombers at Friday’s prelims included the following: 100 - Jordan Hines, 24th, 12.80. 4x200 relay - MHS (Clair Thompson, Holthaus, Madison Nelson and Hines), 23rd, 1:47.06.
300 hurdles - Holthaus, 10th, 46.62 (personal best).
200 - Hines, 17th, 25.49. High jump - Khloe Diggs, NP, NH.
