Rebels Down Spartans In Regular Season Finale

South Fulton scored three runs in the opening inning and never trailed thereafter in defeating Bushnell-Prairie City 8-3 Thursday afternoon at Pete Egleton Field in Astoria.

The victory was the second in as many days for the Rebels over the Spartans.

The two teams played in Bushnell on Wednesday with South Fulton winning 8-0.

South Fulton improved to 5-20 on the season, while B-PC slipped to 2-27.

B-PC scored in the top of the first. Connor Palm singled to right with one out before advancing to second on a wild pitch. He moved to third when Thomas Anderson flew out to center.

Palm scored on a wild pitch with Miles Strode at the plate.

South Fulton answered by scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Bobby Welch opened the inning by singling to right. Jackson Miller reached on an error by Palm at short, allowing Welch to advance to third.

Colby Martin followed with a single to center, scoring Welch. Miller and Martin reached second and third with both scoring on an error by Dylan King at third base.

B-PC tallied a single run in the top of the third as King opened the inning by reaching on an error by Dawson Ratcliff at short.

Palm followed with a double to center, scoring King. Palm attempted to stretch the hit into a triple but was thrown out.

The Rebels made it 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth.

Welch singled to center with one out and moved to second when Miller grounded out to short. He scored when Martin doubled to right.

South Fulton added four insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Miller was hit by a pitch before Martin doubled to right. Westin Chenoweth grounded out to pitcher Strode with Miller scoring and Martin advancing to third.

Cooper Davis doubled to center, scoring Martin to give the Rebels a 6-4 lead.

Myles Kendrick reached on an error by Ethan Hyde at third with Davis advancing to third. Owen Heitz singled to right, scoring Davis and advancing Kendrick to second.

Jonah Miller reached on an error by Palm at short before Bentlee Mayall singled to center, scoring Kendrick to cap the rally.

B-PC scored its final run of the contest in the top of the seventh when Palm singled to right to start the inning before scoring on a two-out single to center by Ryan Adler.

South Fulton out-hit B-PC 13-8 with both teams committing four errors.

Palm had three hits, including a double, with two runs scored and one batted in for B-PC. Landon Ferguson added two hits.

Adler had a hit and a run batted in, while King had a hit and a run scored for the Spartans. Anderson also added a double for B-PC.

Ethan Hyde pitched four innings, allowing four runs, one earned, on six hits. He struck out four and walked two.

Strode pitched two innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on seven hits. He struck out two and hit a batter.

Martin had three hits, including a pair of doubles, with two runs scored and two batted in for South Fulton.

Heitz also recorded three hits with one run batted in, while Mayall added a hit and a run batted in.

Chenoweth knocked in three runs, while Davis added two hits, including a double, with one run scored and one batted in.

Welch had two hits and scored twice, while Jackson Miller had a hit and also scored twice.

Davis pitched two innings, allowing one run on two hits. He struck out two and hit a batter.

Jackson Miller pitched four innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits. He struck out three and walked one.

Chenoweth pitched one inning. allowing one run on two hits.

B-PC was scheduled to begin Illinois High School Association Class 1A Regional play Monday at Knoxville (5-23-1).

Monday’s winner advanced to Wednesday’s semifinal against regional host topseeded Monmouth United (27-5-2).

Thursday’s semifinal has No. 4 seed ROWVA/Williamsfield (22-12) playing No. 5 seed Princeville (14-18).

The semifinal winners will play for the regional title on May 30 at 11 a.m.
