Park Director Blake Severs told the Macomb Park Board last Tuesday that he is working on a policy to allow memorial donations. He said some district residents have asked him about making donations to honor loved ones by planting a tree or dedicating a park bench.
Severs said he would have something for commissioners to look at in June. “We need something like this,” said Park Board President Neil Armstrong. He said the board could act on the policy in June or July.
Armstrong said he’s been taking morning walks through the parks.
“It’s hard to believe all the things that are going on in Patton Park,” he said. “Everly was just loaded with people. It warms my heart to see our parks come back to life.”
Severs said staff are busy with spring and summer’s around the corner. “We’re seeing a lot of program activity,” Severs added. He mentioned that the movie “Jumanji” would be shown on June 5 at 8:30 p.m. in Veterans Park. Severs said the Little Lunchers program would be held from noon to 1 p.m. June 11, July 2, and July 16 in Chandler Park.
District Treasurer Phil Weiss reported that the consolidated project fund totaled $509,016 in April and that the general fund totaled $408,366.
Commissioners received a request from Mark Siepel for a property easement. He said Park Director Ray Peterson gave him permission 37 years ago to build a water slide adjacent to park district property, and that the slide actually curves onto the property.
Siepel said he plans to sell his house this fall and wants the easement for the new owner. Of the water slide, he said, “”It’s been a lot of fun for a lot of kids.”
