
Gloria M. Hornbaker, 76, of Prairie City, passed away on May 5, 2026, surrounded by her two loving daughters.
She was born on August 25, 1949, to Ila Faye Ford and Kendall Shriver. Gloria graduated from Bushnell-Prairie City High School with the Class of 1967 and went on to attend Burlington Beauty Academy in Burlington, Iowa.
On June 28, 1969, she married J.C. Hornbaker at the United Methodist Church in Bushnell. Gloria dedicated 43 years of hard work to Vaughn and Bushnell Manufacturing, where she built a reputation for her strong work ethic and reliability.
Gloria was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She will be remembered for her kindness, caring heart, and unwavering dedication to her family. She was someone who worked hard, never complained, and found joy in life’s simple pleasures— especially shopping trips and cheering on her favorite teams, the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs.
She is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn Hornbaker of Bushnell and Cimberly (Butch) Smith of Bushnell; one sister-in-law, Kate Havens; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were like family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Jay C. Hornbaker, on September 5, 2021; her daughter, Christina Hornbaker, on July 20, 1986; and her sister n laws and their spouses, and one brother n law. Marlene and Melvin Purchase, Marilee and Albert Moore, and Frank Havens.
Gloria’s legacy of love, strength, and quiet resilience will live on in all who knew her.
Cremation Rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday May 23, 2026 at Martin- Hollis Funeral Home. Burial of ashes will follow in the Prairie City Cemetery. A celebration of life to follow at the Prairie City Community Center. Memorial contributions can be made to the McDonough County Humane Society or St. Judes.
