Macomb will play host to the Spoon River Rumble Soccer Tournament May 30-31.

The tournament will be hosted by the Macomb Soccer Club to end the Spoon River Soccer League season. Six teams will compete for the league championship.

Tournament games will from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Veterans Park, and from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Macomb High School soccer field. According to Josh Averback of the Macomb club, the tournament is expected to bring 200-300 players, coaches, volunteers and their families to Macomb. Members of the surrounding community are also invited and welcome to enjoy the tournament festivities. Food vendors and concessions will be available during the tournament. The tournament has no admission or gate fees.

The Macomb Soccer Club is a youth soccer organization serving Macomb and surrounding communities. The club was revitalized this spring to provide youth ages 12 to 14 the opportunity to play competitive soccer.

“We have been pleased with the interest in competitive soccer from the community,' said Canaan Albright, president of the Macomb Soccer Club Board. 'To have more than 25 players join in our first season was a great surprise and shows how much this opportunity was needed.

“We have also had wonderful sponsors step up and help lower the cost of participation for our players, including covering the cost of uniforms and equipment,' he added.

The Macomb Soccer Club plans to expand to include teams for youth ages 9-11 this fall, as a complement to the middle school-aged team. More information about player registration, sponsorship opportunities, and upcoming programs is available at macombsoccer.com. Community members can also follow the team on Facebook and Instagram.
