The Macomb High softball team saw its season come to an end Monday with a 17-0 loss in four innings to Farmington in an Illinois High School Association Class 2A Regional opening-round contest.
Originally scheduled to be played in Farmington, the contest was moved to Chillicothe and Illinois Valley Central High School due to wet field conditions.
Monday’s game was the second between the two teams this season.
The No. 7 seeded Farmers defeated the No. 9 seeded Bombers 12-1 in six innings back on Apr. 29 in Farmington.
The rematch saw Farmington score once in the opening inning before taking control in the second frame, scoring seven runs in building an 8-0 advantage.
The Farmers had four hits in the inning, but also took advantage of three Bomber errors.
Farmington then put the game away in the bottom of the third, scoring nine runs, taking advantage of six hits and six walks.
Macomb had one hit, a single by Kinley Sloan that led off the top of the fourth.
Josie Elbe started in the circle for MHS, pitching 1.1 innings. She allowed eight runs, none earned, on six hits. She struck out one and walked two.
Sloan pitched 1.2 innings, allowing nine runs, all earned, on six hits. She struck out three and walked six.
Macomb saw its season end with a final record of 3-20, losing 19 of its final 20 games, including the final 12 to end the year.
Neveah Howard was the winning pitcher for Farmington, allowing one hit and two walks, while striking out five in four innings.
Joelle Herbst had three hits, scoring twice, while knocking in a pair of runs for Farmington.
Gracie Duley and Cayne Lambin both doubled, recording two runs batted in.
Ava Essex had two hits and three runs scored, while Ashlyn Brewer also had two hits for the victors.
Farmington faced top-seeded Stanford Olympia (27-8) in a Tuesday semifinal at Farmington with Spartans defeating the Farmners 9-0.
The Farmers saw their season end with a final record of 11-14.
Wednesday’s semifinal had No. 4 seed Peoria Notre Dame (18-15) defeating No. 5 seed Canton (18-13) 10-7.
Olympia and Peoria Notre Dame will play for the regional title at Farmington on Friday.
