75, of Macomb
David Lee Thorpe, 75, of Macomb, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, in Macomb, Illinois, with his loved ones by his side. He was born on June 25, 1950, in Macomb to the late Carrie Lou Davis.
David proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era from December 21, 1971, until his honorable discharge on April 25, 1973. His last assignment was aboard the USS King (DLG-10) through the Naval Reserve Manpower Center in Bainbridge, Maryland. He carried the character and discipline of his military service with him throughout his life.
Following his service, David dedicated many years of employment to the State of Illinois Department of Transportation until his retirement due to spinal surgery. He also valued education deeply, earning his Associate’s Degree from Spoon River College and later obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from Western Illinois University.
David was a man of few words, yet those who knew him understood the depth of his intelligence, wisdom, and quiet strength. He was highly knowledgeable, thoughtful, and respected by many. Though reserved in nature, his presence brought comfort and stability to the people who loved him most.
One of the greatest joys of David’s life was his beloved wife, Teresa Thorpe, whom he married on July 7, 2012. Teresa preceded him in death in October 2025, and those who loved them find peace in knowing they are together once again.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Jessica Dittman and Richard Dittman; his cherished and only granddaughter, Cecilia Grace Bayard; brothers Jeremiah Davis and James Thorpe (Laurel); sister Rebecca Leatherwood (Kortney); special niece Jeanetta Thorpe; special cousin Martina Thorpe; along with many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his wife Teresa and his mother Carrie Lou Davis, David was preceded in death by his sister, Julia Davis, and his brother, Arthur Thorpe.
David will be remembered for his quiet wisdom, his service to his country, his dedication to family, and the love he carried for those closest to him.
A celebration of life honoring both David and Teresa Thorpe may be held in July 2026, with details to be announced by the family.
