The American Legion Post No. 6 in Macomb conducts a “School Medal Awards” program each year for the eighth grade classes at Macomb Middle School and West Prairie Junior High School.
Award winners are determined by secret ballot with the eligible voters being the members of each eighth grade class. There are six separate traits on the ballot, each counting for one vote. The six traits include Courage, Honor, Leadership, Patriotism, Scholarship and Service. A female and male winner and runner-up are determined by the balloting. All winners receive a cash award, a certificate and a medal. Each school is presented with an American flag as well. The 2026 eighth grade “School Medal Awards” recipients are: Macomb
