Baseball Spartans Blanked By Red Storm

The Bushnell-Prairie City High School baseball team dropped a 17-0, four-inning decision to host Monmouth United on May 14.

B-PC slipped to 2-24 on the season, while United improved to 24-5-2.

The Red Storm scored four runs in the first inning before exploding for 10 runs in the third inning in building a 14-0 lead.

United closed out the contest by scoring three runs in the fourth.

The hosts finished with seven hits. The Red Storm also took advantage of seven walks and three hit batters, along with four B-PC errors that led to 13 unearned runs for United.

Houston Jackson pitched a four-inning no-hitter for United, striking out seven.

Ethan Hyde pitched 2.2 innings for B-PC. He was charged with 11 runs, only one earned, on five hits. Hyde walked three and hit three batters.

Dylan King pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing six runs, three earned, on two hits. He struck out two and walked four.

Ian Leffler homered with four runs batted in and three runs scored for United.

Tucker Smith also homered, knocking in two runs, while Nolan Jenks added two hits and two runs batted in. Collin Leary also had two RBIs for the Red Storm.

B-PC was scheduled to host Camp Point Central (16-5) Monday before also hosting Abingdon-Avon (16-6) on Wednesday.

The Spartans begin Illinois High School Association Class 1A Regional play May 25 heading to Knoxville (5-20-1) for an opening- round contest.

The winners will advance to the May 27 semifinal against host Monmouth United.

The May 28 semifinal will have ROWVA/ Williamsfield (19-11) facing Princeville (14-16).

The regional championship game is scheduled for May 30 at 11 a.m. at Monmouth United.
