Farmers Walk It Off Against Cyclones
Farmington’s Joelle Herbst belted a walk-off grand slam homer in the bottom of the seventh to hand West Prairie/ Southeastern a heartbreaking 7-4 loss on May 14 in Farmington.
It was the regular season finale for the Cyclones who fell to 2-20 on the year and 1-7 in the Prairieland Conference.
Farmington scored single runs in third, fourth and sixth inning on RBIs from Gracie Duley, Ashlyn Brewer and Laila Irvin to take a 3-0 lead into the top of the seventh.
The Cyclones took a 4-3 lead after erupting for four runs off of starter Nevaeh Howard and reliever Ella Essex who came on in relief of Howard in the seventh.
WP/SE got RBIs from Sara Shelton, Arianna Soule, and Tegan Rigg who belted a home run to lead the comeback rally.
The Farmers would answer in the bottom of the seventh and loaded the bases with one out to bring up Herbst who had gone 0-for-3 previously.
The senior right fielder’s home run improved Farmington’s record to 10-12 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
Soule took the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and striking two while walking three.
WP/SE managed only five hits in the game.
WP/SE was scheduled to begin Illinois High School Association Class 1A Regional action on Monday as the ninth-seeded Cyclones were scheduled to travel to number-eight seed Galva to take on the Wildcats.
Galva handed WP/SE a 4-2 eight-inning defeat back on May 4 in Colchester.
