Calling all screenwriters … get your pens to paper (or fingers to the keyboard) for the inaugural Cube of Justice Community Film Project screenplay competition.
Kyle Remmenga, CEM (Chief Executive Monster) of Cube of Justice Productions, and writer, producer of director of the award-winning, locally- set, 'Killinois,' is encouraging local residents to submit their own unique 'PG-rated' film concept, of any genre, centered around a predetermined location in Macomb. Details can be found at cubeofjustice.com. The deadline to submit the screenplay is July 31.
During the winter months, Remmenga will host its first-ever Forgottonia Film Lab, where members of the public are invited to come together to make the winning screenplay into a film. Participants will select a director, cinematographer, editor, actors and more, while learning the ins-and-outs of filmmaking.
'Generic Community Theater is so predictable, I want to be wowed with someone's original new idea and I think Macomb has enough talent to really create something special,' Remmenga said. 'Making a film isn't remotely the same as putting on a play, and I want people to have the opportunity to step out of the traditional community art lanes. But first, we need an amazing story.'
Remmenga's first fulllenth feature horror/dark comedy flick, 'Killinois,' is a 1.5-hour film, made up of four anthologies, that was cast with mostly local talent. He won 'Best First Time Filmmaker' at the Hot Springs International Horror Film Festival for 'Killinois' in late 2024.
In addition to making his movies, Remmenga works out of his Macomb home for a major television network, which has an office in Chicago.
