Scott Jennings Fishing Contest Set for May 23

The 47th Annual Scott Jennings Fishing Contest for area youth will be held Saturday, May 23 at Spring Lake in Macomb.

Sponsored by the Macomb Fraternal Order of Police, the Macomb Area Unforgettable Forgottonia Visitors Center and the State of Illinois Looking for Lincoln Coalition. The event is open free to children ages one through 15. Registration opens at 9 a.m., with fishing from 10 a.m. until noon. At the end of the contest, each participant will have all their catch weighed. Prizes will be given to the top 10 finishers in each age group. Each participant will also receive a free gift, and food and beverages will be provided to all participants.

Participants will also have the chance to meet 'Abe Lincoln,' who will take part in the event in fishing attire and accessories from the late 1800s.

The annual event is named after the late Scott Jennings of Macomb, who, at age 16 died in a car accident in Spring 1980, the weekend of the firstever event. Jennings had worked at his stepfather's store selling bait to participating children. The Scott Jennings Sportsman Trophy is awarded every year in his memory.
