At the Macomb Park Board of Commissioners meeting last week, Board President Neil Armstrong discussed the upcoming search for a park director. Rachel Lenz has left Macomb to head the Urbana Park District. Armstrong said the Illinois Association of Park Districts will assist the Macomb board in screening and evaluating applicants.
The park board voted to appoint Commissioner Phil Weiss as district treasurer. Weiss reported that the district had $259,965 in its general fund at the end of April. The district's consolidated project fund totaled $215,006.
Acting Board Secretary Chris Frankhauser swore in Cory Clem, who was elected to the park board on April 1. Armstrong said commissioners would elect a board president and vice-president at their June meeting.
Frankhauser reported that two major positions have been filled. Michelle Narvaez has been promoted to events superintendent. Allie Foster has been hired as McDonough County Special Recreation Association program supervisor and will begin work in September.
Frankhauser said that, in the interim, Distirct Office Manager Julie Flynn has been helping SRA members prepare for the Illinois Special Olympics. Five have qualified to compete on July 17.
Frankhauser also reported that basketball hoops were installed last week at Patton Park. He said all improvements to the park should be completed by the end of August. The deadline to register teams of two for the Park Golf Tournament at Ball Fore Family Recreation Center is June 7. Support Services Superintendent Blake Severs will conduct a CPR certification class on June 25.
