Incident in Good Hope Friday Ends in Death of Local Man

Subject: Female Airlifted to Peoria Following Domestic-Related Disturbance

A domestic incident Friday morning in the Village of Good Hope, just six miles north of Macomb, resulted in the death of a Good Hope man.

According to McDonough County Coroner Eric Jameson, the deceased's name and cause of death will not be officially released until the autopsy is completed. The autopsy was scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, with results expected to be released later Monday (Editor's Note: The information released was after deadline; however, The Community News Brief will post any updates on the Facebook page and website).

Around 10:15 a.m. Friday, McDonough County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a home at 400 N. Monmouth St. after a truck driver traveling along U.S. 67 witnessed a woman covered in blood exiting the home and called 911. The woman told police her husband had attacked her with a knife. She was airlifted to OSF in Peoria where she is recovering from serious injuries and is listed in stable condition.

McDonough County Sheriff Nick Petitgout said that witnesses saw a man leave the Monmouth Street home Friday morning shortly after his wife was transported to the hospital.

The male suspect was seen re-entering the structure, and shortly after, started a fire inside and would not exit the home.

At 4:30 p.m., after obtaining a search warrant, the Illinois State Police tactical team attempted to enter the residence. Firefighters then entered the dwelling and located the male subject, who was deceased.

The investigation is ongoing under the direction of Illinois State Police Troop 4, along with the Illinois State Fire Marshal.

During the incident, U.S. 67 was closed to northbound and southbound traffic. The road reopened around 7:30 p.m. Friday evening. In addition, West Prairie Elementary School, which is located near the home, was placed on a soft lockdown for close to three hours. WP Superintendent Paula Markey shared on the district's Facebook page that law enforcement cleared the school for dismissal around 1:30 p.m.
