Report from the Illinois Health and Hospital Association Highlights Members’ Economic Impact
After steadily increasing in recent years, McDonough District Hospital has now surpassed $200 million dollars of economic impact to the local and state economy. The Illinois Health and Hospital Association (IHA) released its report as part of the “Communities Win When Local Hospitals Are Strong” campaign.
The $202.5 million is an increase of $4.2 million from two years ago and up $15 million since 2022. IHA’s 2026 report noted that MDH is responsible for 1,226 jobs supporting working families. MDH’s direct and indirect payroll figures of $113.9 million, combined with $73.4 million in supplies and services, and just over $15 million in capital, accounts for the $202.5 million infused into economies.
“MDH is proud to be a leading regional economic driver, now exceeding $200 million, for our local and state economy,” said President & Chief Executive Officer Bill Murdock. “We continue to be a leader of excellent patient care, utilizing advanced technological equipment and lifesaving services that improves the health and well-being of our west-central Illinois residents.”
IHA’s 2026 Economic Impact Report highlights the following: Hospitals pump $135.5 billion into the state economy; Every $1 hospitals spend on payroll, supplies and capital generates an additional $1.40 in economic activity.
