Downtown Building Plans Approved by Historic Commission

The Macomb Historic Preservation Commission voted last week to issue a certificate of appropriateness to Jessica Thorman for a building she bought at 217 North Randolph Street. The structure was built in 1891.

'I want to present the building in a cleaner way,' she told commissioners, noting that the exterior shows signs of physical wear.

Thorman said she has already updated windows, doors and trim. She asked the commission's permission to paint the facade and add signage. She also plans to apply for a downtown facade renovation grant.

The commission told Thorman to select her building colors from a palette of six provided to her by Downtown Development Director Savannah Ballard. Ballard, who serves on the commission, said the color palette was provided by Sherman Williams and reflects traditional historic colors.
