Shirley A. Weaver 83, of Pendleton, SC, formerly of Bushnell
Shirley A. Weaver, 83, of Pendleton, South Carolina, formerly of Bushnell, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on May 10, 2026.
She was born on April 1, 1943, in Mound Township, Illinois, to Harley and Leona (Peterson) Chapman. Shirley married Ronald O. Weaver on June 12, 1960, in New Philadelphia, IL, and he preceded her in death on July 26, 2017.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Kurt) Gibson of Pendleton, SC; two grandchildren, Michael Gibson of Lenexa, KS and Ryan (Trinity) Gibson of Anderson, SC; two siblings, Larry (Rita) Chapman of Bushnell, and Evelyn (Merle) McCormick of Marietta; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ronald O. Weaver; three brothers, Jerry Chapman, Ronald Chapman, and Donald Chapman; and one sister, Donna Wells.
Shirley was a graduate of Bushnell-Prairie City High School. She worked for many years as a secretary at Adair Grade School in Adair, and later at both Wilson and Lincoln Grade Schools in Macomb, before retiring.
Shirley had a deep love for her family and friends, and there was nothing she would not do for those she loved. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially fishing, gardening, planting flowers, and feeding and watching birds. Her love of animals extended far beyond birds, as she truly cared for all of God’s creatures.
In her later years, one of Shirley’s greatest joys was the companionship of her beloved little dog, Cuddles. The two were inseparable, and it was a familiar sight to find them sitting side by side together on the couch.
Shirley was also a talented baker and seamstress. Her coconut cream and lemon meringue pies quickly became family favorites that were always requested at gatherings. Through her sewing, she not only stitched fabric together, but also friendships and family bonds in a special and meaningful way. She will be remembered for her gentleness, laughter, caring heart, and the love she shared with everyone she met.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Martin-Hollis Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Bushnell Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Bushnell Fire Rescue Squad or the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Please sign the guestbook and leave condolences for the family at www.martinhollisfh.com
