LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Join us this Saturday for the May 31 Rally

To the Editor:

Thanks to everyone who participated in the May 17 protest rally in Chandler Park. It warms my heart to join neighbors and friends who believe like me that we need to rally to preserve our democracy. Special thanks to Chris Vallillo for leading us through traditional Woody Guthrie songs with Chris’ specially adapted lyrics for our trials and tribulations today. It sure felt good to be singing our story while shoulder to shoulder with new and old friends.

Please join us this Saturday for the May 31 rally from noon to 1pm. Every day we wake up to a new calamity. The courts make decisions and the president ignores them. People are disappearing. Students are being stripped from learning and preparing for a better world. The “budget” that the House just passed includes a provision that would restrict federal court authority to hold government officials in contempt if they violate judicial orders (Section 70302). We cannot let the Senate pass that provision. Hurry and check out PBS and NPR for the facts before they are eliminated along with support for libraries, culture, the arts, and the road to diversity, equity and inclusion.

We need to let the world know how we feel. We need to contact our legislators. And, we need to continue to band together and make our worries and needs known. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the next rallies, all starting at noon in Chandler Park. Here’s the schedule: May 31 “Stand Up For Democracy,” June 14 “No Kings,” July 12 “We The People Means ALL People,” August 9 “No One is Above the Law,” and August 23 “Truth, Justice, and Accountability.” Please stop by our booth during Heritage Days, June 26 to 29.

See you Saturday, Ross Braun Macomb, IL
