Macomb Spring Citywide Clean-Up Begins May 11

It's time to clean out those garages, sheds, basements, attics and closets!

Macomb's Spring Citywide Clean-Up Days begins Monday, May 11 and runs through Thursday, May 14, with a second pick-up day Monday, May 18 in neighborhoods around Western Illinois University.

Macomb residents who want to participate should place their trash at the curb no sooner than 48 hours before their regular garbage pickup day.

Clean-up will begin at 6 a.m. on the normal trash pickup day. Place items in containers or bundles weighing less than 50 pounds. Sturdy bags, including plastic trash bags, are allowed outside the trash bin for clean-up days only.

'This is a beneficial service provided to the community,' noted Mayor Mike Inman. 'On-time placement of refuse and trash keeps the cost down and reduces the neighborhood unsightliness associated with the program.'

Permitted items to be placed at the curb include furniture (chairs, tables, mattresses, etc.), appliances (refrigerators and freezers - doors must be removed, stoves, washers, dryers) and general household 'bulk' items (carpet, household trash, large metal items).

Items that cannot be included are yard waste; paint, motor oil and thinners (paint cans can only be set out if the paint is dry within the container); hazardous waste such as gasoline, propone, chemicals/pesticides; electronics (televisions, computers, cell phones, stereos); tires; batteries; auto parts; construction/demolition debris and concrete prep.

Electronics can be disposed of at the Tri County Collection, 129 W. Jackson St. in Macomb, from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Tuesday-Friday, and from 8 a.m.-noon the first Saturday of each month. Visit wirpc.org/environment for a complete list of acceptable items.
