Colchester City Council Approves Payment for Water Tower Painting

In a light session, Monday, May 4, the Colchester City Council approved payment of $53,800 to Pittsburg Tank & Tower Group as downpayment for the painting of the city water tower. The amount represents half of the contracted cost.

The first item on the agenda was a presentation from JoAnn Hairston-Jones about the history of the countywide glass recycling program. She also asked for a $350 annual donation from the city to help support the program, but no action was taken at this time.

A list of mayoral appointments was presented, designating chairs and members of the various city committees as well as elected officials, appointees, and department heads.

Contact information is available on the city’s website at cityofcolchester.gov In other business, the council approved Resolution 2026-02 in recognition of the Illinois America 250 event; approved the purchase of a Clean Guard fire extinguisher for the police department at a one-time cost of $600; approved the design for a new shoulder patch for the police department; and approved the closing of Market and Fulton Streets for the Saturday, May 23, Veteran’s Memorial program.
