Milton Lynn Sullivan

75

Milton Lynn Sullivan, 75, of Colchester passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on May 3, 2026.

He was born March 22, 1951, in Little River, Kansas to Russell and Arlene (Shelley) Sullivan. On July 17, 1970, Milt married the love of his life, Susan “Tootie” Brown at the Colchester Christian Church. She preceded him in death on September 7, 2025.

Milt was a 1969 graduate of Colchester High School. He worked for local contractors prior to starting Milt Sullivan Construction. He built many homes and enjoyed the years his dad and later his son worked with him side by side.

He trained many young men in the craft that also went on to become contractors or self employed businessmen. He served as the Colchester Township Supervisor for over 40 years. Milt and Tootie owned and operated Milt’s Snack Bar in Colchester in the mid 80s-early 90s. In the years they spent there they helped “parent” quite a few local kids. He considered those years some of the very best. He worked for WIRC providing weatherization to countless homes in the area. He was second in charge after Tootie at “Grandma’s Daycare” that all of their grandchildren benefited from.

Upon retirement he was a groundskeeper at Twin Oaks Golf Course in Blandinsville which he enjoyed immensely.

Milt enjoyed the simple life that he and Tootie had built together. He loved to spend time with his growing family, he enjoyed Monday night poker, playing cards, gambling at home or the local slot machines, his daily 4 pm coffee time, visiting with family and friends on the porch and watching the hummingbirds flock to his feeders. For 35 years he loved to be at the family cabin in Heapville on the Mississippi River. He was an avid fisherman and fried the best catfish. Boat rides and floating on the river hold many special memories for his whole family and their circle of friends.

Milt leaves many broken hearts with his passing; he is survived by his daughters, Jamie Sullivan, Gretchen (Mark) Sullivan and one son, Cory Sullivan all of Colchester.

Grandchildren: Ben (Kelsey) Broadhead of Colchester, Sydney (Kelli) Zimmerhead of Clayton, Connor Sullivan of Macomb, Payton (Ray Crowl) Broadhead of Burlington, IA, Andrew Sullivan of Colchester, Aidan Sullivan of Colchester, Cody (Leigh) Peffers of Colchester. Milt was blessed with two great-granddaughters, Finley & Adley Broadhead and one great-grandson arriving this week, Maverick Peffers, all of Colchester. Also mourning his passing are two brothers: Pat (Terri) Sullivan and Mike (Debbie) Sullivan all of Colchester; one brother-in-law, Mike (Sandy) Brown of Abingdon, IL. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins of which he held in great regard.

Milt was greeted in heaven by his beloved wife of 55 years, Tootie, his parents, Russell & Arlene Sullivan and his in-laws Herb & Patsy (Green) Brown.

We would like to thank the wonderful caregivers with MDH Hospice for treating Milt and his family with their compassionate and respectful care.
