Charles E. Barnes, 89, passed away peacefully with family by his side at 9:18 PM on May 3, 2026 at Grand Prairie in Macomb. He was born December 14, 1936 in Hancock County, Illinois to Leland and Grace Barnes.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers (Joe, Bobby, Raymond, Jimmy), and 3 sisters (Mary, Pat, Kay).
He is survived by 4 sisters (Opal, Anita, Carol, Donna), his son Tony (Amy) Barnes and daughter Julia Stoneking, 5 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Charles served in the U.S. Army and was an active member of the American Legion post 17. He retired from the Macomb Police Department in 1984 after 21 years of service as a patrolman.
Graveside services were held at Good Hope Cemetery May, 7, 2026 with military rites by the Ipava American Legion Post 17. Rev. Mike Eddy officiateed.
