Michael Christopher Jelenic

41, formerly of Macomb

Michael Jelenic, 41, passed away on May 15, 2025 surrounded by friends and family in Cleveland, Ohio. The funeral service will take place at 10:00, Tuesday, May 27, at Sunset Funeral Home in North Olmsted. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00pm on Monday, May 26 at Sunset Funeral Home.

Michael is survived by his wife Elizabeth Boomer, his parents Christopher and Liz Jelenic, and his sister Alicia Kalinowski and her husband Marcin Kalinowski. He is also survived by three godchildren, all of whom looked up to him and will remember him fondly.

Michael graduated from Saint Ignatius High School in 2002 and went on to George Washington University in Washington, DC to complete his bachelor’s degree. Michael then completed a Master’s degree in International Relations and a Doctorate in Political Science from The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. While pursuing his Master’s and Doctoral degrees, Michael fell in love with travel and being abroad, making innumerable friends along the way.

Michael’s love for the unknown and for new challenges made his nearly fifteen-year career with the World Bank especially fruitful. As demanding as the work consistently was, Michael always looked for exciting opportunities and areas where he could grow professionally and personally. Special thanks from the family to the many World Bank mentors who encouraged and supported Michael’s dreams and ambitions.
