Bomber Girls Soccer Splits Recent Contests

The Macomb High girls soccer team returned to action May 1, heading to Fort Madison, Iowa to face the hosts.

The Bloodhounds improved to 7-1-0 on the season, recording a 6-1 victory over the Bombers.

Taylor Baldi scored for MHS. Macomb finished with 13 shots, seven from Taylor Mann. Kate Rector had three shots, while Elanah McFadden, Valentina Perez and Baldi all attempted one shot apiece.

Mann also had three corner kicks and Rector one.

In goal, Natasha Lin recorded 12 saves.

On Monday, the Bombers played their final home match of the season, defeating visiting Monmouth-Roseville 2-0.

Macomb improved to 3-8-2 on the season, while Monmouth-Roseville dropped to 2-10-2.

The Bombers scored once in each half, getting goals from Mann and Brixley Lidaywa.

Mann attempted a team-high 11 shots, with Perez recording two shots. Rector, Lidaywa, Mylan Chung, Sophie Wilson and Mariella Rodriguez all had one shot apiece.

Lin recorded the shutout in goal, notching 12 saves against the Titans.

The Bombers wrap up the regular season May 15, heading to Galesburg to face the host Silver Streaks (8-7-1).

The two teams were originally scheduled to play Apr. 2, but the contest was postponed by inclement weather.

Macomb will open Illinois High School Association Class 1A Regional play on May 18, heading to Princeton to face the Tigers (15-5).

MHS is the No. 5 seed, while Princeton is the No. 3 seed.

The victor advances to the regional final on May 22 at Princeton, facing topseeded Rock Island Alleman (9-7-0).

The regional champion advances to sectional play at Rock Island Alleman on May 26, joining regional champions from Bloomington Central Catholic, Geneseo and Illinois Valley Central (Chillicothe).

The sectional title match is scheduled for May 29.
