Spring Sidewalk Sales on the Square May 9

New Spellbound Stories Owners Bring Square Businesses Together

May 9 is set to be a busy day in Macomb, Illinois. In addition to the unveiling of the new Macombopoly statue at 10 a.m. on the Macomb Square, merchants around the Square will be set up for the inaugural Spring Sidewalk Sales event.

The new Spellbound Stories owners, April and Thomas Trias, are making it their mission to get more people to the downtown area, so the couple decided to host a Spring Sidewalk Sales event after it was announced the Spring Market would not be held this year.

Lars Gossel of Gossel's Dog Haus and Aly Sturgis of Sullivan-Taylor Uptown have been working alongside the Trias' to get the new event off the ground, April noted.

The Trias', who took over the Macomb comic book, games and more store in July, have worked with numerous downtown (and a few off-thesquare local) businesses who will be set up from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 9, with specials, giveaways and more.

In addition, food trucks, vendors and local musical favorite, Dan Eilers, will be set up in inner circle of the McDonough County Courthouse lot.

'I really wanted to focus on our locally- owned businesses and continue to breathe new life into the square,' April said.

Nelson's Clothing Store, New Copperfields, Square Music Company, select Community Market vendors, Nomad Tattoo, Chicks, Sullivan Taylor, Michaels, Browns Shoe Fit, among other Macomb Square businesses will be set up during the event. Such vendors as Crystal Gypsies, Sweets Bakery and Big Brothers Big Sisters, of Macomb will be set up, along with food trucks Paddy's Patties, Hibbett Fish & Burgers, What's Shakin' and more. In addition, volunteers from the Western Illinois Museum will be strolling about in historical summer attire. Also on May 9, 309 Marketplace, just off the Square, will be hosting a special event.

Vendor spaces, as well as food truck spaces, are still available for the Spring Sidewalk Sales, and can be reserved by calling April at (309) 837-7300 or (912) 661-1710, or emailing spellboundstoriesllc@gmail. com. Set up can begin as early as 7 a.m. May 9.

'Re-energizing the Square is something we want to work on,' April added. 'Our locally owned businesses are an important part of our community and we want to get even more traffic on the Square.'
