In Friday's Macomb City Council of the Whole story, Alderman Dave Dorsett was misquoted regarding his position on the Illinois BUILD Act and the Illinois Municipal League. According to Alderman Dorsett, he believes the State is overreaching with some provisions of the BUILD Act. Dorsett went on to state, 'While some ideas, such as third-party review options or outside inspections have merit, the overall effect is to remove local oversight and put more authority in the hands of the State.'
All elected officials want to streamline the system to build more affordable housing but it needs to be done in a way that doesn't freeze out those who are closest to the communities we serve.
