Stamp Out Hunger May 9

Dear Readers,

Each year, letter carriers across the country head out on their routes on the second Saturday in May to collect donations of non-perishable food items to benefit local food pantries. Since launching in 1993, the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive, helping to fill the shelves of food banks in cities and towns throughout the United States.

Saturday, May 9 marks the 2026 Stamp Out Hunger Food drive. The non-perishable food donations from postal customers will go directly to Macomb-area food pantries to provide food to people in need in our area. Since its inception, the drive has collected nearly 2 billion pounds of food, thanks to a postal service universal delivery network that spans the entire nation, including Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The need for food donations is great. Nearly 48 million Americans (roughly 1 in 7 households) face food insecurity; this includes over 14 million children living in food-insecure households Participating in this year's National Letter Carrier’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is simple: just leave nonperishable food donations in a bag by your mailbox Saturday, May 9 and your letter carrier will do the rest.

Please help us in our fight to end hunger, as we celebrate our decades of Stamping Out Hunger.

Sincerely, Your Local Letter Carriers
