Imagine July, when the breeze is dry, and summer sun floats in the sky. As you ponder where to go, seeking shade from the sun’s hot glow, why not visit someplace grand, nostalgic wonders close at hand? Then look no further than Dr. Seuss’ “Seussical the Musical,” which will take center-stage in mid-July.
Western Illinois University Department of Theatre and Dance, will present the 2026 SummerStage event, “Seussical,” Friday, July 17-18. Auditions will be held Friday-Saturday, May 8-9. Individuals interested in taking part in auditions must complete a registration form at tinyurl.com/WIUTheatre SeussicalAuditions prior to May 8. Parts are open for both adults and children, as well as ensemble cast members. Rehearsals kick off Monday, June 1.
A family show by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, “Seussical” follows Horton the Elephant, who stands tall and guards with sincerity. He shelters an abandoned egg with a secret inside, while watching Whoville’s folks in stride. The Cat in the Hat narrates with delight, showing how far imagination takes flight. But can Horton prevail and keep hope alive, or will challenges test if he’ll truly survive?
More news about this musical will be available on WIU Theatre’s Facebook page.
