As part of its McDonough County Bicentennial programming, the Museum is hosting an exhibit focused on Oakwood Cemetery, to be dedicated on Saturday, May 9, at 7:00 p.m., at the Museum with a presentation by Macomb’s most well-published historian, John Hallwas. Dr. Hallwas’s talk will be illustrated by Power Point illustrations. The cemetery’s noted history, which stretches back to the burials of our earliest settlers, will be reflected. Hallwas is the author of an award-winning book about Oakwood Cemetery, titled Oakwood Cemetery: Reflections on the Dead in a Small-Town Cemetery, and he has given various tours of Oakwood and written many articles about folks who have been buried there, over the years. Indeed, the cemetery is an official state-sanctioned historic site. No program during our Bicentennial year will more broadly reflect the multi-generational community of Macomb than this one.
