‘Straight, No Chaser’ Brings Jazz Energy to the MAC

The Macomb Arts Center is set to blow the doors off National Jazz Appreciation Month with a solo exhibition that captures the high-note energy of the genre. “Straight, No Chaser,” featuring the vibrant works of artist Natalie Jackson, officially hits the bandstand Tuesday, April 28.

Jackson’s collection doesn’t just sit on the wall; it riffs. Her pieces utilize bold textures and a visual syncopation that mirrors the improvisational heat of a late-night jam session. It is an exploration of color and movement that stays perfectly in tune with the soulful spirit of jazz.

The community is invited to swing by the opening reception this Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 25 East Side Square.

To ensure the vibe is just right, the evening will feature live jazz guitar music, providing a melodic backdrop as guests browse the gallery.

For those who can’t make the opening set, the exhibition will remain on the charts through May 30. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.

- 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 4-7 p.m. Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

Whether you’re a long-time cat in the local art scene or just looking for a creative reset, this showcase offers a beautiful bridge between the visual and the auditory. Don’t miss your chance to experience this soulful riff on the traditional gallery experience.
