Letter to the Editor:
I am writing today, Monday, April 20 on the 'Right to Read Day' of the American Library Association-sponsored National Library Week (April 19-25h). Today is 'a day of action to support our right to read.' And it couldn't be a more appropriate day to write this letter as this right is under attack by our own elected Rep. Mary Miller who swore an oath to support and defend our Constitution.
On February 24, HR 7661, 'Stop the Sexualization of Children Act' was introduced in Congress, 'To amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to prohibit the use of funds for activities or literature to children under 18 that includes sexually orientated material.' This passed (18-13 votes) out of the House Committee on Education and Workforce on March 17, and could be voted on in the House as early as this week.
You can look up this and read the text online and you really should. Basically, it states that standard science text books and 'classics' as defined by the owners of a religious- based home school curriculum company are ok. Anything that is sexually explicit (which makes total sense) is not. Anything that involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism is not acceptable. There it is.
