Linda Lea Van Vleet

74, of Macomb

Linda Lea Van Vleet, age 74, of Macomb, Illinois, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026. She was born on July 20, 1951, in Williston, North Dakota, to Markham and Mable (McCluskey) Hay. She married Greg Van Vleet on August 28, 1971, in Rockton, Illinois.

She is survived by her husband, Greg Van Vleet of Macomb, IL; her daughter, Shannon (Jarred) Dexter of Macomb, IL; her son, Tyler (Patrick Devine) Van Vleet of Des Plaines, IL; and her daughter-in-law, Carrie Van Vleet of Macomb, IL. She was a proud grandmother to Reeve and Cameron Dexter, and Carter and Everley Van Vleet, all of whom brought great joy to her life. She is also survived by her sister, Susan Fasula of Mequon, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Dr. Shane Van Vleet; and her brother-in-law, Steven Fasula.

Linda dedicated her life to education, working as a teacher and positively impacting the lives of countless students throughout her career. She was a graduate of Western Illinois University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. Her commitment to learning and her caring nature made her not only a respected educator, but also a trusted mentor and friend to many.

Linda’s happy place was The Northwoods. Her absolute favorite place in the world was the family cabin, where the world felt a little quieter and the air a little sweeter. Nothing brought her more contentment than a slow afternoon spent on the pontoon boat, drifting across the water surrounded by her family.

Linda will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to her family, and her lifelong dedication to education. She found her greatest happiness in the time spent with those she loved, especially her grandchildren. Linda’s kindness and presence will be deeply missed, but her influence will be felt for generations in the family she so dearly loved.

In accordance with Linda’s wishes, services will be held privately. Her ashes will be laid to rest at the Bailey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
