Attention all units … 10-50/10-55 at Q-Lot. All units respond immediately.

Western's Emergency Medical Services (WEMS), Western Illinois University's student-run emergency medical service through the Office of Public Safety (OPS), will hold the 36th annual Mock DUI at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 16 in Q-Lot on WIU's Macomb campus.

Officers from OPS, the Illinois State Police Troop 4, McDonough County Sheriff's Department and Macomb Police Department, as well as emergency personnel from WEMS, the Macomb Fire Department and McDonough District Hospital, will respond as if the accident were real. Air Evac will fly a helicopter in, and McDonough County Coroner Eric Jameson will also respond. The accident vehicles have been provided by English Towing Service of Bushnell.

'This event provides a realistic scene related to drunk driving and the devastating consequences that can occur from drunk or buzzed driving,' said OPS Corporal and WEMS Adviser Austin Groves. 'We want to show what can happen quickly and how emergency and law enforcement personnel work together to save lives. If you feel different, you drive differently. If you're drunk or even simply buzzed, call an Uber or a friend for a safe ride, take public transportation or walk. Don't risk your lives or the lives of others. An evening of fun isn't worth a lifetime of mourning and regret.'

Students from area high schools have been invited to watch the situation as it unfolds. WIU faculty, staff and students, as well as community members, are also invited to attend.

For more information, contact OPS at (309) 298-1949.
