Macomb Lions Club provides vision screening for children as a community service through the Lions KidSight USA, with a special mobile vision camera used for the screenings. In the last few months, members of the Macomb Lions Club visited four daycares in the area, screening more than 150 children. In addition, 13 children were referred to an optometrist for further screening.
Lions KidSight USA is a national initiative that provides vision screenings to children ages six months through six years. The mission is to assist in identifying significant ocular conditions which may lead to amblyopia (lazy eye). While the screenings are not intended to substitute for a comprehensive eye exam, they are designed to assist in identifying the presence of risk factors that may affect a child’s vision. Certain vision conditions are more easily correctable if they are diagnosed and treated early.
