Bomber Soccer Blanked By Little Giants 2-0

The Macomb High girls soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to host Canton High Thursday evening at Ingersoll Middle School.

MHS slipped to 1-4-2 on the season, while Canton improved to 5-3-2.

Canton scored both of its goals in the opening 40 minutes.

Johanna Theobald scored on a free kick before Avari McDermet added an unassisted goal.

Macomb’s Taylor Mann had four shots, while Thea Granheim also had one shot.

Keeper Natasha Lin recorded 21 saves. Canton keeper Olivia Sprecher finished with two saves. It was the second meeting of the season between the two teams.

They opened their respective seasons on Mar. 18 in East Peoria at the 11th Annual Lady Raider Soccer Classic hosted by East Peoria High School at the Eastside Centre, settling for a 1-1 draw.

The Bombers were scheduled to return to action Monday, heading to Jacksonville to face the Crimsons (4-6-0).

Macomb will then return to the home pitch Wednesday to face Quincy Notre Dame (2-4-2) before battling Beardstown (4-3-1) on Thursday.

The contest against Beardstown will be a rematch between the two teams that saw the host Tigers edge the visiting Bombers 1-0 back on Apr. 6.
