ROBIN’S Bushnell Roundup

ROBIN’S

Hello Friends – I “think” that Spring is finally here – it’s been a typical midwestern season for sure. The birds are confused and the trees and shrubs are as well. Hopefully, we will be on track for an actual spring with weather to match and get this year on track!

Upcoming events: 4/11/2026 B-PC Spartan Baseball – 80’s Music Trivia 7pm 4/18/2026 – Spring Fling, A Bluegrass Gospel Night @ the CCC 4/18/2026 – Mystery Party – 80’s Prom @ VFW in Bushnell 4/28/2026 – Final Friends Feeding Friends meal until August @ the CCC. It’s a Pasta Bake 4:30-6:30!

4/25/2026 - Celebration of Life for Dale Teel “Moby” 1-4pm Bushnell VFW 5/9/2026 – Music Trivia Night with the B-PC Football Team – 7pm at Bushnell VFW I try to not focus on a particular person in my column, but on general information. However, this column I’m going to veer off and focus on one guy – Dale Teel. These are just my impressions – I know everyone has a different view, but these are mine. If you have ever been to Delaney’s, the Silver Fox or the Bushnell VFW, chances are you knew Dale. He was the bartender at all 3 spots during his tenure in Bushnell. Dale passed away this last week after a very short war with his health. Some might say that is the way to leave – an “Irish Goodbye” if you will. Sneaking out without anyone knowing. Very fitting for a guy who had a giant love affair with Notre Dame Football. Anytime a game was on and Dale was working, suffice to say that the game came first! Dale knew the ins and outs of many subjects, but Notre Dame Football was in his top hits for sure. Followed by the Chicago teams – Bears and Cubs, but Notre Dame always had top billing!

Sports were not Dale’s only interest – the man could give you any information on music, he was a wealth of trivia information especially music. But it didn’t stop there! He was an outstanding bartender, who could and would make any drink you wanted – and threw the best bar parties around. Making his signature chili and decorating the area to fit the holiday/season (as well as outfitting himself in festive attire!), Dale made everyone feel at home when you came into his domain.

Dale loved to travel. He rode the rails and waters through the states and beyond. History was a big part of his travels, he read up on where he should visit when he was there and took in all the sights. Made friends wherever he landed and just soaked up what he could when he could. Sometimes it was just a long weekend, but more so a vacation each year or so to a new destination was usually in the hopper for the next time.

Dale never married, and he would be the first to tell you he was looking for the right one to enjoy life with. What he never realized (I don’t think, anyway), is that he had the best of best with the friends and family he had. There are pictures everywhere on-line of him with all the beautiful ladies (and gents as well), but the one thing they all have in common is a hug from Dale was the best you could get.

There is going to be a send-off for Dale at the Bushnell VFW, April 25 from 1-4pm. I know Dale would want you to come up if you are able and tell all the stories about him (and we know there are many!) Bushnell’s lights will be a little dimmer without Dale around, but oh man, his legacy will live on – especially on game days with the Fighting Irish. “Rally sons of Notre Dame Sing her glory and sound her fame Raise her Gold and Blue And cheer with voices true: Rah, rah, for Notre Dame We will fight in every game, Strong of heart and true to her name We will ne'er forget her And will cheer her ever Loyal to Notre Dame. Cheer, cheer for Old Notre Dame, Wake up the echoes cheering her name, Send a volley cheer on high, Shake down the thunder from the sky!

What though the odds be great or small, Old Notre Dame will win over all, While her loyal sons and daughters March on to victory! You now have the best seats in the house, Dale! We will see you when we see you!

Stay safe – Robin Wilt
