The Western Illinois Museum invites the community to an evening of music, dance, and good company for an old-fashioned square dance, plus a special opportunity for local musicians of all ages to sit in on two dance tunes. The event will take place on Saturday, April 18th, from 5:30-7 p.m. There is a suggested $5 donation at the door.
All ages are welcome to celebrate the tradition of square dancing to live music in a welcoming atmosphere where everyone can join in the fun. The evening’s dances will be led by local square dance caller Jamie Lane, who will guide participants through classic square dances accompanied by live music from fiddler John Lane.
Local musicians are invited to bring their instruments and sit in on two featured tunes: Red Haired Boy and Whiskey Before Breakfast. Sheet music and tutorial videos can be found on the Museum’s website and Facebook page to help players prepare and take part in the fun!
Guests can also enjoy pizza and bar service refreshments while connecting with friends, family, and neighbors. Whether you're a seasoned dancer or trying your first do-si-do, this event is for everyone!
