MHS Baseball Rallies To Beat A-Town Upping Record To 6-2

The Macomb High baseball squad scored nine runs in the final three innings to rally for a 10-6 non-conference victory over Abingdon-Avon Tuesday afternoon.

Both teams saw their respective records move to 6-2 on the season.

Macomb scored once in the top of the first before A-Town scored twice in the bottom of the second to take the lead.

The score remained 2-1 before both teams tallied three runs in the fifth inning, leaving the host Tornadoes with a 5-4 lead.

The Bombers responded in their next at-bat, scoring four runs to the lead for good at 8-5.

A-Town scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Macomb added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

Macomb out-hit Abingdon-Avon 10-8 with both teams committing three errors.

Nick Elbe had four hits, scoring three runs. His two-run double in the sixth gave the Bombers a 6-5 lead. Elbe then hit a two-run homer in the seventh that doubled Macomb’s lead.

Emmett Beck and Jaxon Barclay both had two hits, including run-scoring doubles as part of the four-run sixth inning.

Isaac Leinbach had one hit, but scored four runs from his lead-off spot in the batting order.

Tyler Schultz, Kaden Knupp and John Ogle knocked in one run apiece. Knupp and Hayden Katz each scored a run, while Leighton Lambert added a double.

Katz, the third MHS pitcher, picked up the victory in relief.

In two innings, he allowed one earned run on one hit. Katz struck out three and walked one.

Barclay started, pitching three innings. He allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits. Barclay struck out five, walked one and hit a batter.

Schultz pitched two innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits. He struck out two, walked two and hit a batter.

Evan Hook had three hits, including a double, while Cooper Anderson added two hits for A-Town.

Anderson, Elias Carreon, Alex Foutch and Carsen Slagel all scored once and knocked in a run for the Tornadoes.

Connor Froelich, the third of four A-Town pitchers, took the loss.

In two innings, he allowed seven runs, four earned, on four hits. Froelich struck out one, walked two and hit two batters.

Foutch started, allowing one run on two hits in two innings. He struck out three and walked one.

Hook pitched to scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, striking out two.

Andrews pitched the seventh, allowing two runs on one hit with one walk and one strikeout.

The Bombers were scheduled to return to action Thursday, hosting Palmyra, Mo. (6-3) at Phil Bradley Field.

On Friday, the squad is scheduled to head to Canton to face the Little Giants (2-5-1) before returning home Saturday to play Pittsfield (8-4).

The Bombers fly back into Prairieland Conference play Monday, hosting West Prairie/Southeastern.
