It is set in the Renaissance and features a mercenary, Sigismondo, and his manservant, Benno. It is their relationship that makes the series so special for me, and since they feel like old friends, it is one of the series I have to reread every so often. Renaissance Italy comes alive with all of its pageantry, sights and smells, intrigue, and action. This historical mystery series is simply incomparable!
